Getting paid to send spam … by a DMA member?

Posted April 14, 2004 – 6:30 pm by Yakov Shafranovich in Spam and Email

This was mentioned on SlashDot today:

Virtual MDA will pay you $1 per CPU hour their program is running to relay spam around the world.

They refer to a website called VirtualMDA.com which in turn claims to be run by a company called SendMails Corp (sounds awfully like SendMail, time to send the lawyers?). A quick check of WHOIS records reveals that the domains are owned by “Atriks LLC” which leads straight to their ROKSO record at SpamHaus.org.

The interesting part of all of this is that their homepage displays a DMA member logo. A DMA member sending spam, unexpected or business as usual?

UPDATE: Now comes word that they started suing people for reporting them as spammers. Hmm, they really don’t have anything to hide…
