Whois Spam
Posted July 2, 2004 – 2:18 pm by Yakov Shafranovich in Spam and EmailAnother example of interesting spam arrived in my inbox today. The interesting part is that it was addressed to an email address at my domain that is only used in one place – WHOIS records. My registrar uses a CAPTCHA (reverse Turing test) during WHOIS lookups but they managed to get in anyway. The spammer is Robert Soloway of Newport Internet Marketing.
UPDATE: More spam is still coming from this guy, but now they try to skirt around the CAN-SPAM Act by claiming that they are only offering their services to non-profits (which are exempt). To paraphrase Shakespeare, spam by any other name is still spam.
