Wanna Work for Microsoft? Blog Your Resume
Posted October 20, 2004 – 3:59 pm by Yakov Shafranovich in TechnologyThis is gotta be one of the stranger things used for recruitment, although not nearly as cool as Google’s weird math puzzles on billboards. If you link to this blog entry from Heather Leigh, a Microsoft recruiter, she promises to look at your resume (via Liudvikas Bukys):
Want me to find your blog resume without the trouble of having to send it to me?
Link from your blog resume to this post and I’ll check out your resume by reviewing my referrals. Pretty stealth, huh? Nobody needs to know except the 2 of us ; )
Not sure if she means plain HTTP referals or trackbacks.

I meant referrals but people can trackback if they don’t care about everyone knowing. If you refer (use my post permalink on your resume page), you’ll need to click on it once to get it to register on my referrals list.
And I don’t hink Google was the first one to do those coder ads…they are just the people getting credit for it now. ; )

Hate to be the pessimist here but does anyone besides me think this is a perfect way for her blog to suddenly skyrocket on the google rankings?

As Heather stated above and in her blog, all she is looking for is referals. These links don’t stay up long enough to affect Google ranking.

FXDemolisher…I’m not quite that devious. Google rank doesn’t get my job done, recruiting people does. Just an experiment to see what kind of response I’ll get and of course, getting those resumes in front of some recruiters here. I guess if I had paid advertising on my blog, I would care a little more abot google rank. But never enough to trick people…I’m not wired that way.
Anyway, I’m mostly getting tech resumes which is fine and I am happy to get them to the right folks here. But my space is marketing. As long as folks are working in the tech industry, I’m happy to field those resumes. Also, it’s perfectly fine if people send resumes to me via the contact button. Then you don’t have to worry about the google rank conspiracy ; )

Being a technical person I am usualy very suspicious of news coming from big companies. Unfortunatly this includes Microsoft. This is mostly due to the headaches that such news cause me in my work.
I may have been to rash to suggest foul play on Heather’s part. My appologies to Heather.
