Wifi on the Treo

Posted December 15, 2004 – 11:52 pm by Yakov Shafranovich in Technology

For quite some time there has been discussion about Wifi on the Palm Treo 600 and 650. The other PalmOne models - T5 and Zire do support WiFi via an SD card, but PalmOne has always claimed no drivers for the Treos. Tonight word comes from TreoCentral that a member of the site was able to hack the T5 WiFi drivers to work on the Treo 650, albeit roughly. Owning a Treo 600 myself I would love to have WiFi (just think of all the war driving scenarios :) )

The interesting part of this entire story of course is why PalmOne vehemently denies ability to make their own drivers to the Treos. If some college kid on his spare time can do it, why couldn’t a major company do the same?
