Making Money from Blogs on Hot Topics
Posted February 11, 2005 – 10:04 am by Yakov Shafranovich in TechnologySlashdot has a story about an experimental blog solely focused on asbestos (there is also a similar one on Vioxx and Celebrex). The intention is that certain hot topics attract a lot of Ad Words advertisers which pay a lot of money for clicks. It would be interesting to see if Google catches on and starts blocking these sites.

Why would Google start blocking these sites? As long as no false clicks are made, the advertisers get (and pay for) genuine visitors who are interested in asbestos (Vioxx, Celebrex). Why should a weblog, focussed solely on one subject, generate more irrelevant clicks than a site that is focussed on all kinds of subjects?

If it is setup for the explicit purpose of gaining ads, that might be an issue because the people who click on the ads do not necessarily do it because they are interested, but rather because they are participating in the experiment.
