Genealogy as a Security Risk
Posted March 5, 2005 – 10:51 pm by Yakov Shafranovich in TechnologyOne would think that putting up genealogy information would be a good thing. However, while working on it I came across a rather interesting security risk – most genealogy programs will hide details for living individuals but will still keep their names open. This MAY be a security problem since it is very easy to figure out what someone’s mother’s maiden name is which is used for passwords in some places such as banks.
What’s the solution? Don’t publish information about living people AND we should tell banks and other organizations to stop using maiden names for secondary passwords.

Or you can supply a fictitious maiden name to your bank.
