Welcome to “The Internet Standards Blog” - the newest discussion place for everything revolving around Internet standards. After searching far and wide for a site that would keep me upto date on standards activities and current news, I decided to create one myself. We are still working on setting things up so occasionally you may see some broken things. But please bear with us while we finish up.

After doing a Google search on Norton 2002 E-mail scan issue I found your blog on the same issue. Have you found a fix as of yet? I’m searching for one myself.
What I have found out is this… The issue is with Windows 2000 and XP and not Windows98. I know people on all these environments and have asked them to check. So now the question is who is it really?
Microsoft Security patch or a Norton Antivirus upgrade? I know these systems have all been installed by myself and all have been running fine. My most recent system installs were done in the last week and I can’t download e-mail with virus scan on. The other systems I did were done a couple months ago and were fine until recently. The Windows98 was done almost a year ago and still works fine.
Microsoft has issued an update I gather that causes the issue and the question is which one? Your problems started in Jan.2005 while mine didn’t happen till August. I was running Norton Antivirus 2003 Pro before re-installing my pc and it was fine.
If you have a fix or know of one let me know…I’m just upgrading back to 2003 to see if that clears my issue.
