« Old ASRG Archives IETF Approves SPF and Sender-ID »
IETF Leaning Towards Approval of Both Sender-ID and SPF
Posted June 15, 2005 – 2:50 pm by Yakov Shafranovich in Spam and EmailAccording to a tell tale list message from Ted Hardie (the IETF’s AD for Applications), the IESG which is the governing body (somewhat) of the IETF, is leaning towards approval of both Sender-ID and SPF even though Sender-ID distorts the meaning of SPF records and results may differ. Their logic is as follows:
The IESG believes that SPF and Sender-ID are both going forward in the market place, and that having open specifications of them is of benefit to the community. As the IESG note states, we believe there are serious open issues. We are not recommending publication in order to recommend them,
but for the information of the community and with the hope that those specifications in hand will enable a clearer analysis of the behavior.
So in other words, the purpose of these is for documentation purposes.
