Russia … or Nazi Germany?
Posted November 23, 2005 – 9:17 pm by Yakov Shafranovich in PoliticsBy sheer chance I ran across two separate articles discussing a new law under consideration in the Russian Duma (i.e. Parliament). Among other things this law “further increases government control of NGOs, allowing official oversight of their finances and activities”. It also would “prohibit foreign organizations from opening branches in Russia”. This comes on the heels of another story about Moscow’s Chief Rabbi being banned from Russia due to the fact that he “poses a threat to national security”. There have also been reports of opposition politicians being beaten and some even shot dead. This of course comes on the heels of well developed “Young Guard” youth movement, also part of the ruling party (which btw replaced the independent election observers). Perhaps another youth movement also allied with the ruling party of its time may sound familiar?

Was there ever a difference between Russia and Nazi Germany? I seem to remember reading about a treaty between vonRibbentrop and Molotov…
